Summary:
The Golden Lily is the second installment in the Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead. Sydney Sage is still in Palm Springs, California helping to keep Jill Dragomir safe from those out to dethrone the Queen. The more time Sydney spends with Adrian, Jill, Eddie and Angeline the more she questions the beliefs she's held all her life. Sydney finds herself in a new situation when cute, super smart Brayden asks her out and he seems to be her perfect match. Sydney's complicated life gets even more challenging when a new danger arises, one that poses a threat to those around her. What will Sydney have to do in order to make sure those around her stay safe?
Review:
If I had any doubts about Sydney being the lead character in Bloodlines those doubts completely disappeared after reading The Golden Lily. She's complicated, funny, unsure of herself, and really good at her job, in other words she's a great character to get to know. I think the reason I have gotten attached to Sydney as the lead is because she is so complex. She is really book smart but is almost clueless when it comes to social matters. On several occasions she does research on social situations because she knows she's a little awkward, which I thought was so Sydney. She has so many internal issues such as her body, the  Alchemist's, and her attachment to Jill, Eddie, and Adrian that I can't help but wonder how this is all going to play out.
Of course we get more of the rest of the group. Jill has begun to get used to life at Amberwood after her initial issues in Bloodlines. Her new roommate on the other hand is struggling. Angeline comes from a very different world and is trying to adjust to a structured life that she isn't used to. But she does seem to be a good bodyguard. Eddie is as dedicated as ever. He however is still struggling with his feelings for Jill. Then there is Adrian. I have enjoyed reading about him since the Vampire Academy Series. I was so happy that he was going to be a part of this new series. Luckily for me there is plenty of Adrian in The Golden Lily. We get to see him develop as he tries to figure out who he is and what he wants to do with his life. He's still the pain I have come to adore but it seems like he's becoming more responsible.
I have been waiting forever to read more about Sydney, Adrian and the rest of the group. Let's just say I was not disappointed. I like seeing into the mysterious world of the Alchemists. That is one organization I would not want to go against. They are efficient, calculating, and they absolutely believe they are always right. There is also lots of action which includes some Dimitri action. I still miss Rose and Dimitri but I do enjoy Sydney's voice as well mainly because she is so different from Rose but just as entertaining. New obstacles arose that I think will play a role in upcoming books and I'm looking forward to seeing how everything plays out. The ending made me crazy. I couldn't believe the way this one ended. I definitely want to know what happens next.
Cover:
I think the cover is okay but is not one of my favorites. It just doesn't stand out to me. I do like the font of the title and the lilies but the rest is just nice.
