Review: Blood Prophecy by Alyxandra Harvey

Blood Prophecy (Drake Chronicles, #6)
Blood Prophecy (Drake Chronicles #6)
Publication Date: January 8, 2013
Publisher: Walker Childrens
Paperback: 496 pgs
~YA~

Summary:
Solange Drake has been officially crowned Queen of the Vampires, fulfilling the centuries old prophecy that foretold the rise to power of a daughter born to an ancient vampire line. Except Solange's thoughts and actions are no longer her own-she's been slowly being possessed by the spirit of Viola, the first daughter born into the Drake line, since her bloodchange. And instead of uniting the vampire tribes under the rule of an ancient daughter as the prophecy predicted, Viola would rather destroy them all and enslave humans in a personal vendetta for the devastation both wrought to her life centuries ago. Can Solange break her hold in time to save everyone she loves from a vampire civil war, hunter attack, and each other? Not everyone will survive the prophecy . . . perhaps not even her.(Goodreads)
Review:
Blood Prophecy is the last book in the Drake Chronicles, I've been dying to see how this series concludes but sad that the series would be over. This book is told mostly from Lucy and Solange's POV with a few other POV's thrown in.

I've mentioned before that in the last couple of books I was completely annoyed by Solange. But I have to say knowing she is possessed alleviated my feelings, especially when we are able to see the real Solange again. Through Solange we see why she was possessed as she fights to get her body and mind back under her control. I loved that even though Lucy and Solange haven't been close lately Lucy is sill determined to figure out what is going on with her best friend. Lucy refuses to believe that her best friend could be so evil. Since most of the books are told from Lucy and Solange's POV we get to find out what is going on with the other Drakes including my favorite Drake, Quinn.
There were a few moments where I was a little confused as to whose POV I was reading. The two voices were a little too similar at times which was a little annoying. This book also seemed to be in two parts; the fight to save Solange and the fight to save the vampires from an attack by the Hunter's. One thing I loved about this book was all the twists and turns that had me going, WHAT!! I couldn't believe some of the things that happened, as I never saw certain things coming.
I was completely satisfied with how this series ended. Though I am super sad that I won't get to read any more new adventures about the Drakes. I'm just glad that the final book was so good and I wasn't at all disappointed as I have been with other series ending books. I don't feel like I was left with a ton of unanswered questions.

I like this cover though I do think this couple has been on too many covers so I don't think it's highly original. But it's not horrible.

This week I'm reading Of Triton. Luckily the bookstore that I went to over the weekend had it out early so I had to get myself a copy. And I have to say I am really liking it. Who doesn't enjoy mer-people?

Of Triton (Of Poseidon, #2)

"I could use my Gift to send the fish away from her, or I could just bust all her teeth out. Maturity seems to be evaporating into the air. I wonder if her Gift includes pushing all my buttons in rapid-point five seconds."

Of Triton (Of Poseidon #2), Anna Banks pg 201.
That's my teaser for the week! What book(s) are you teasing?

Most Anticipated (32)

Of Triton (Of Poseidon, #2)
My Most Anticipated Release of the Week is, Of Triton. After the ending of the last book, Of Poseidon I have been dying to find out what happens next. Plus this supernatural book has mer-people. Yep that's definitely very interesting! One of the biggest reasons I loved the first book was all the humor sprinkled throughout the story. I am a sucker for a book that can make me laugh and Of Poseidon certainly did that. I was lucky enough to find this one over the weekend and I am loving what I have read so far!
Summary:
In this sequel to OF POSEIDON, Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: As a Half-Breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm below. Syrena law states that all Half- Breeds should be put to death.

As if that’s not bad enough, her mother’s reappearance among the Syrena turns the two kingdoms—Poseidon and Triton—against one another. Which leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen’s request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself—and her Gift—to save a people she’s never know?(Goodreads)

Of Triton (Of Poseidon #2), Anna Banks. Expected Publication: May 28, 2013; Feiwel & Friends. Hardcover 256 pgs.

Jet (Marked Men #2), Jay Crownover. Expected Publication: May 28, 2013; William Morrow. Kindle Edition

"I let my lips skim hers and they were every bit as soft as they looked. A tiny noise escaped her mouth and I lost it. I pressed my lips to hers and experienced a new world. I closed my eyes and took her in. She threw her arms around my neck and melted into me. I felt her fingers in the hair at the back of my neck and then her mouth opened a bit and I took that as an invitation to deepen the kiss." SWOON #YABound

I finally got around to reading Pushing the Limits and I couldn't get enough of these characters. Can't wait to read Dare You To (Beth's story).
Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1)
"Guilt nagged at me. She didn't technically ask me a question, so in theory, I didn't owe her a response, but the need to please her swept over me like a tidal wave. But why?"                                                                                  Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits #1), Katie McGarry pg 13

Most Anticipated (31)

As Dead As It Gets (Bad Girls Don't Die, #3)
My Most Anticipated Release of the Week is, As Dead as It Gets which will come out in paperback this week. I've seen these books around for quite some time but I have yet to read them. I guess now that the trilogy is complete I can go ahead and give these books a shot. Plus I love the super eerie cover.

Summary:
It's been three months since Alexis helplessly witnessed Lydia Small's violent death, and all she wants is for her life to return to normal.
But normal people don't see decaying bodies haunting photographs. Normal people don't have to deal with regular intrusions from Lydia's angry ghost, sometimes escalating to terrifying attacks.
At first, it seems that Lydia wants revenge on Alexis alone. But a girl from school disappears one night, and Alexis spots one of Lydia's signature yellow roses lying on the girl's dresser the next day. Soon, it becomes clear that several of Alexis's friends are in danger, and that she's the only person who can save them. But as she tries to intervene, Alexis realizes that her enemy is a much more powerful ghost than she's ever faced before... and that its fate is tied to hers in ways she couldn't possibly imagine.
Not even in her worst nightmares.(Goodreads)

Ever After (The Hollows, #11)
Ever After ( Hollows #11)
Publication Date: January 22, 2013
Publisher: Harper Voyager
Hardcover:  435 pgs
~Adult~
Summary:
The ever after, the demonic realm that parallels the human world, is shrinking. If it disappears completely, so does all magic. It's up to witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan to avert catastrophe and keep life from changing... for the worse.

While saving the world is important, it isn't Rachel's only motivation. There's also the small fact that she caused the ley line to rip in the first place, setting off a chain reaction of unfortunate events. That little mistake has made her life forfeit unless she can fix it. It's also made her more than a few enemies, including the most powerful demon in the ever after—a terrifying entity who eats souls and now has an insatiable appetite for her. He's already kidnapped her friend and goddaughter to lure her out, and if Rachel doesn't give herself up soon, they'll die.

But Rachel has more than a few impressive and frightening skills of her own, and she isn't going to hand over her soul and her life without one hell of a fight. She's also got a surprise: elven tycoon Trent Kalamack. With this unlikely ally beside her—a prospect both thrilling and unnerving—she's going to return to the ever after, kick some demon butt, rescue her loved ones... and prevent an apocalypse before it's too late. Or, at least that's the plan. (Goodreads)
Review:
Ever After is the 11th installment in the Hollow series. I have been addicted to this series since I first started reading it a couple of years ago. It's intense, the characters are complicated, intriguing and the story has kept me completely entertained. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this latest installment. I can definitely say I was not disappointed by this book. Rachel is once again forced to fight for her life, which of course makes for an exciting action packed read. In each book I have thoroughly enjoyed how Rachel has evolved and has started to learn who she is. She's comes to terms with being a demon and now she's focused on trying to survive being a demon.
One of my favorite parts of this series is the ever evolving relationship between Rachel and Trent. I like that we we are getting to know Trent, bit by bit through his interactions with Rachel. Trent has always been one of my favorite characters. It's interesting  to see all these sides of him and how unpredictable he can be. Any Hollows book would not be complete without Jenks, the adorable wisecracking pixie. He always makes me laugh at least once and keeps me smiling throughout these books. Ivy doesn't play a big role in this book, since she's gone for a majority of Ever After. I'm a little sad that some of the characters that I've come to enjoy weren't really in this book, such as Glenn, David and Captain Edden.
All in all, I have to say Ever After is a great addition to the Hollows series. It's an exciting read full of surprises that I didn't want to put down. I'm eager to see what is next for Rachel in book 12.

I love this cover!! The colors as well as the power Rachel is displaying.

"I whimpered against his mouth, amazed at how good this first kiss could feel. His mouth was hot, but sweet. Soft, but demanding. My hands moved up his chest and around his neck until they knotted in his hair. I moaned, and his tongue slid into my mouth, dancing with my own. The need for more—more of his wet, hungry kisses, more of his hands on my inflamed skin, more of him—built as we consumed each other." SWOON #YABound

Today I chose a teaser from Shadow and Bone. I devoured this book, it only took me a few pages to get drawn in and after that I couldn't put it down.

Shadow and Bone (The Grischa, #1)

"It surrounded me, blazing heat more powerful and more pure than ever before because it was all mine. I wanted to laugh, sing, to shout. At last, there was something that belonged wholly and completely too me."                                                                                               Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1), Leigh Bardugo pg 183.

I haven't done a Swoon for awhile because I've been having a heard time dragging my head of whatever book I'm reading. I'm just sitting there reading, next thing I know it's crazy late and I have to try and get a few hours sleep. This week I decided to get my post done early. I chose a Swoon from Faster We Burn an NA novel by Chelsea M. Cameron.

"I wanted to kiss her and touch her stomach and her fingertips and the backs of her knees and everywhere in between. I wanted to memorize every inch of her, every freckle. I wanted to know the map of her body, what made her sigh in pleasure, what she liked, what made her beg for more." SWOON #YABound

I picked a teaser from the New Adult book I am currently reading, Deeper We Fall. It's pretty good and I can't wait to see how it ends!
Deeper We Fall (Fall and Rise, #1)
"The books I'd been shelving hit the floor. I turned slowly, hoping against hope that it wasn't who I thought it was. I hadn't heard that voice in years; thought I'd never hear it again."                                             Deeper We Fall (Fall and Rise #1), Chelsea M. Cameron. Kindle 5%
