This week I have been thinking about my blog and the graphics I have created. Why do I feel the need to change my blog colors, template, and graphics so often?
This is not an easy question for me to answer. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I love creating new graphics. I love playing around with colors and adding different hearts, stars, clouds, and flowers. For me it's fun to sit around and create different headers or stars to use for my reviews. I get excited when I realize a holiday is coming up and I get to change my header to fit the occasion. I'm not able to make gorgeously perfect headers but I still love doing it. I also get tired of looking at the same designs over and over again. Just like I don't like reading the same story time and again, I guess I just like to change things up.
Plus I wasn't really happy with the template I was using. It was pretty basic and I couldn't change a lot of things like the sidebar colors and background.I wanted it either dark or tranparent but there wasn't an option to change it. So I finally decided to switch to another template and I like this one much better. It has more options and now my sidebars are transparent.Yay! Also I really don't like the icons I am using for twitter, FB or Goodreads, so I will have to create new ones that I like better. Yeah, I'm probably going to spend a few hours doing that.
Of course there are some issues with my constant need to change things. It creates a lot of extra work that I still haven't done...yet. I need to go back and change the graphics for My WHY of the Week and I need to replace the old stars in my reviews with the new ones. But that won't happen until I make yet another set of stars. I think the ones I have are to similar to each other. I like having different stars for the book and the cover. So once I settle on a set of stars then I have to go back and fix things. I want my posts to look consistent.
Another downside to changing things often is I don't want people to wonder if this is my blog. So I hope to stop my incessant need to change things so people can get familiar with my blog and not feel as though it is going to change each time they come back. But, I don't want it to get boring so I can't guarantee I won't change my header and colors for holidays. Or when the mood strikes.
Am I alone in this? Do you feel the need to change your blog or do you like things the way they are? Let me know.
I'm exactly the same, I love to change it. I only have my blog since November and this is my third design. I am still learning how to do it though.

I have had mine since June and changed the template 3 times and the header 5 or 6. There are still a ton of things I want to learn about blogging which is the fun part. Learning new things and then using them on my blog.
DeleteYou are not alone in this. I like changing the style of my blog often as well. I'm on Wordpress so I can't tweak it as much but I still like doing it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see I'm not weird for wanting to change my design so often.
