Review:
I have been eagerly awaiting this book since I heard about it, shortly after I finished reading Last Sacrifice (the last book in the Vampire Academy series). I was a little nervous to start this book since it would be told in a different POV than I was used to, but I must say I had nothing to be nervous about. As you can see from my rating I really liked this book in fact I read it twice back to back which only made me want to read the next installment Golden Lily even more.
Bloodlines is told from Sydney Sage's POV, an 18 year old alchemist who had a small role in the Vampire Academy series. Sydney's voice is definitely different from Rose but I found it just as entertaining. Other characters that show up from VA include Jill Mastrano, Eddie Castile, Abe Mazur, Rose Hathaway (only for a sec), and of course Adrian Ivashkov (my favorite). If you have not read VA then you have no idea who these characters are but lucky for you, you can get to know them as you read Bloodlines. The new set of main characters get a chance to shine in this series a chance that they did not have in the other series.
In Bloodlines Sydney must try to overcome her issues with Moroi and dhampirs in order to do her job properly. As it is Sydney is already in trouble for events that took place in VA. So in order to save her job and restore her reputation she must do as she is told. But she also has other reasons for accepting this job, reasons that have to do with her family. In California she not only has to try and protect Jill but also deal with the new experiences involved with attending school for the first time. In VA Sydney appeared to by brisk and efficient but in this book we get to see inside Sydney's head, to see why see believes what she does and why she is the way she is. I liked the way that the world was viewed through Sydney's eyes it was a fresh look at a world we have come to know.  Plus we get a chance to see into the alchemists and what they do. I also enjoyed Sydney's interactions with the other characters and how it changed throughout the book, especially her interactions with Adrian. There were some twists I did not see coming that I thoroughly enjoyed but obviously I will not say what they were. Sydney has to try and balance who she is with what she must do.

Cover:
I am not a huge fan of this cover it's OK and it kinda follows the same design as the VA series but I just wish it had a little more pop. I've seen the next cover and it is similar to this cover. Though I'm not a huge fan of the covers I really really like the book.
